120gallery90 Opening Reception May 24th at the HAYC3 Armory

Come join us at the 120gallery90 on May 24th between 6pm-8pm at 80 Church Street in Hoosick Falls, NY for the opening reception of “In the Sanctuary of the Bird’s Nest,” by the Hoosick Artist Guild.  This show is a series of transformed, abandoned bird’s nests from Hoosick Falls in The 120 Gallery.  Gallery 90 will host a solo exhibition by Cameron Schmitz, “Reflections of the Traversed Landscape—Paintings & Photographs.”  A native of Greenwich, CT Schmitz received her MFA in Painting from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and currently works from her studio in Brattleboro, VT.  She is represented by The Drawing Room Gallery in Cos Cob, CT and also a member of the Copley Society of Art.  Schmitz has been curated in group exhibitions at Kyoto Seika University in Japan, Emory University, Northern Arizona University Art Museum, and Rogue Space Chelsea, New York.

Schmitz states, “I interpret the energy and spirit emanating from the different environments that I visit and take refuge in and merge them with my own personal response and visual perception to create an image that embodies a sense of place and often changing of time. This translates into paintings and drawings that illustrate my interest in mark making, repetition and the contradictions of movement and stasis. I deliberately utilize a variety of mark making techniques and applications, combining hatched and etched lines with gestural contours, painterly strokes and larger tonal shapes to give energy, a bit of uncertainty and character to each work. To me, marks become language with its own syntax and grammar and its variations perform like musical tunes. Allowing each individual work to organically drive and dictate my use of techniques gives me the ability to discover a meaningful dialogue with each of my subjects and a distilled orchestration of movement, rhythm and color found within nature and within our every day lives. The rural landscape that surrounds me is a part of a bigger picture, a relationship that I share with the world and these paintings and drawings are a part of that world.”

As part of the Music in Hoosic Campaign, Rat Pack style music by Ric DiDonato will start in the Owls Nest Music Lounge at 7pm during the opening reception.  For more information about 120gallery90, HAYC3, or the Music in Hoosic Campaign please contact 518.686.9050 or visit www.HAYC3.org.
