Program Discontinuation

HAYC3 Discontinues Programming

January 2, 2019

The Hoosick Armory, Youth Center, and Community Coalition (HAYC3) is extremely sorry to announce that HAYC3’s afterschool and camp programs, in addition to other community programs hosted by HAYC3, will be discontinued as of January 12, 2019. The afterschool program will remain in operation January 2-4, and January 7-11, 2019.

HAYC3 has been faced with a dire financial challenge that prompted the board of directors to implement an emergency fundraising appeal, in December 2018, to friends and supporters of HAYC3’s mission, while also engaging in conversations with community leaders about a restructuring that will revitalize the role of the Armory as a viable community center.

The first immediate goal of the appeal was to get an infusion of $25,000 by January 1, 2019, to offset deficits and pay off current expenses and debt (as outlined in the original appeal). HAYC3 is saddened to report that, despite a grand effort on many people’s parts, we came up well short of that goal. That situation left the board of directors no other option but to eliminate the two salaried staff positions, which means the discontinuation of events/programming, including the afterschool and camp programs, in addition to other community events, at this time.

The decision was extremely difficult, especially because of the individuals and families affected. But it was a necessary, responsible decision as HAYC3 tightens expenses even further while focusing efforts on keeping the Armory open for its current tenants and continuing the conversations already underway with community leaders and supporters about how best to restructure.

The board of directors cannot express how valuable Executive Director Aelish Nealon, Business Manager Marie Bushey, and all who assist them with programming, have been to HAYC3 or how much HAYC3’s successes are because of their above-and-beyond hard work and dedication, and perseverance over many years.

As of this writing, the board remains open and committed to doing what can be done to keep this hub of the community from disappearing. If you’d like to join the conversation about what’s best going forward, please reach out to us via email at contactHAYC3@gmail.com. Contributions are still very much needed to continue our march forward (online at HAYC3.org/donate or via mail to PO Box 492, Hoosick Falls, NY 12090).

We thank you for your continued support and understanding.
